Sita, daughter of King Janak of Mithila, garlands Shri Ram as Lakshman and the brothers look on and her sakhis gather beside her. The sacred fire burns before them and Shiva's broken bow lies below - the moment of the Sita Swayamvar. With a festive mandap canopy, densely patterned costumes and a bold geometric border, this is a centrepiece painting of the region's most beloved story.
